Movable Type is now a 'platform' with forums and other stuff. I just updated to the latest version which gives you this 'platform'.
Let's see what breaks. :)

How do you like 4.2? We've been kicking around the idea of updating... We're currently on 4.1
It's not a huge change unless you really get into it. I haven't really invested a lot of time into 4.2, because I'm not sure I want to stay on Movable Type as a platform. That being said, it's significantly faster, and the threaded comment support is pretty freakin sweet.
Well I think the faster part is a bit relative. We're running on Living Dot which hasn't been too good to us as of late... if you've missed my ranting - anytime ANY of Trib blogs gets massive hits, suddenly all blogs go down. This means no one can read, or blog.
Threaded commenting IS a nice feature, but it isn't something that the bloggers have been after me for.
Swamppolitics.com is our only Trib blog that uses 4.2, and honestly, any of the features (I think) I like, seem to be 3rd party plug-ins anyway. Everything else appears to be static fluff that may or may not have to be updated manually.
That sounds terrible. If Living Dot isn't setting to static files, that's their first mistake. The fact that they haven't realized that massive hits means spreading out the hardware sounds like a massive amount of fail. :(
I'm not in love with 4.2, but I haven't seen any reason why you /shouldn't/ upgrade at this point.
Since I don't personally manage the swamppolitics blog, I'm not sure what a lot of the sidebar crap is. It looks nice, but I'm not sure how (Chicago?) manages that.
Living Dot is terrible so far because of the sluggishness we get whenever any blog gets massive hits. It's a double-edged sword to get dugg or farked...
Point is that swamppolitics is our nicest looking blog, but the features on it might not necessarily translate nicely to some of our other blogs. I need to find out what's working for them, and if I can implement them myself on our blogs. It's a mammoth task.
