Movable Type 4

| | Comments (0)

I upgraded the blog to the newest Movable Type 4 beta, and you're seeing it live now. Let me know if you run into any difficulties.

My first impression is "oh my god, this is really nice!" I've been shopping around for a new blogging tool as MT has been irritating me in a lot of ways, especially since WordPress has been gaining momentum. I couldn't bring myself to install a PHP blog tool, not to mention the fact that this server has a legacy PHP4 installation due to once of the web sites hosted on the machine.

The spam controls are now included out of the box, the editing system is now completely sane, and the whole thing is much easier to navigate. More later, as I have a chance to play with it.

Almost like deja-vu

Just like an entry long before, here is whatthefuck.com in the current Catalyst rewrite. Two weeks until it is deployed to replace the current codebase, and I couldn't be happier. Bigger under the link.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Butterfield

Jim Butterfield died last night at 1:30 in the morning, from complications from cancer. He inspired many a geek who hacked their way through Commodore 64's in the old days. He certainly helped me explore the inner workings of computers, and he will be missed.

The sad thing is that he leaves with a whimper, when he was such an influential person in the 80's, in that scene. Anyone who opened a copy of COMPUTE, COMPUTE's Gazette, or RUN knows who he is, and how brilliant he was.

My best wishes to his family. Know that he left his mark on so many people, and he will be remembered.
